what makes up the front page of a magazine
Masthead – Name of
magazine in a custom or unique font to the magazine. Used to show what the
title of the magazine is. It usually does not change unless the magazine is a
special issue or the whole publication has a redesign.
Dateline – Month and year of publication. Also usually includes the price
Main image – Just what it says. The main picture that covers the front cover and is usually there to attract an audience and sales.
Coverlines – Text about what is inside the magazine. Sometimes snippets of text from articles, quotes from interviews or other text to attract customers.
Main coverline – Like a coverline but more important than the other ones. Usually bigger and with brighter colors.
Selling line – Short, sharp description of the title’s main marketing point.
Barcode – Standard barcode to be scanned in shops. Usually not present in issues that will not go to shops (subscribers, online etc.)
